Just a quick blog before I head to bed:
My day started by heading out to explore by heading to the Civic area, viewing the Esplanades Theatre which is an interesting domed building and surrounding park areas. Walked down to the river which is really pretty with towering buildings and impressive hotels and restaurants along the waterfront. As it was nice weather I decided to head to Mount Faber and Sentosa Island. You can walk up the mountain or get the cable car. As it's about 30 degrees and soooo humid I decided to cheat and get the cable car! I had to take the lifts up to the 15th floor to get on the cable car and so when I was on the cable car it was a looong way up! Amazing views on the way up to the Mountain, and then I explored taking pictures of Singapore from the various view points. After I'd exhausted that I got back on the cable car and headed over to Sentosa island, which is joined to the mainland by a bridge. It feels a bit like going to Alton Towers as there's loads of rides and attractions like luging and bungee. decided to take the more relaxed option of going to one of the beach areas called Siloso and paddling in the sea. Even the water couldn't cool me off as that was warm too so I walked the entirety of that beach area and then had a wander around other parts of the island before heading back to the mainland.
The weather here is really changeable as mid-afternoon it suddently changed and there was a huge downpour - I decided it would be a good idea to go back and grab my rainproof from the hostel (everyone seems to have umbrellas but I cant seem to find any shops that sell them!) and then head out again to grab some grab. Found a hawker centre which is an area that has loads of food stalls with everyone competing for your custom. Chose a place that sells chicken satay and ordered 10 sticks (minimum order) for $5 (2.50 sterling). A lot of the tube stations seem to be in shopping centres and they're amazing places - loads of little eateries and interesting places and they're always buzzing. I found a soya bean stall and ordered some soya ice cream which looks like mr whippy but won't do the damage to my guts (just as well for my fellow hostel roommates)! Then went to the Asian Civilisations Museum for a bit of an injection of culture after last nights more boozy evening. Now I'm sitting in the hostel. People here are of varying nationalities and whilst there's a few people who seem to be on their own people aren't very sociable despite my attempts at smiling and saying hello...think it might be because most people seem to be staying for a very short period of time before getting an onward flight. I don't mind exploring on my own though as it's quite nice to wander and go where i want to. I think Australia shoud be more sociable especially as I'm booked in at Base for my first night which I hear is a popular place for backpackers.
Oops, this was supposed to be a quick blog so I'd better sign off so I can go to bed! x
