I've arrived in Singapore! Amazingly I managed to get an upgrade due to oversales so was sat in the World Traveller Plus section of the plane, which meant I had lots of leg room, a window seat, more channels, a little pack with eye mask, ear plugs & socks and just one person sat next to me. Luckily that someone turned out to be a really nice interesting man from Scotland (no romance potential though as he is happily married with kids!).
I arrived at 4pm Singapore time and feeling half asleep managed to navigate my way to the MTR to try and find my hostel. It is really humid in Singapore! By 6pm I arrived at the hostel, which is really central and seems nice. Most people seem to be from China or India and the only girl that was in my hostel was a girl from China who lives in Sydney now so I chatted to her whilst I got myself ready to meet my friend Richard who is in Singapore for work. We'd arranged to meet outside Raffles Hotel for a famous Singapore Sling so I quickly got ready and decided to walk (in the rain) to the hotel.
Raffles Hotel is both huge and extremely grand! I'm glad I'd packed a nice dress as I don't think my normal backpacking gear would have cut it here! Met Richard and his work colleague and found the Long Bar which is open to the public. Ordered a Singapore Sling, which was nice, but not the most amazing cocktail in the world, but when in Singapore...!
After our drink we grabbed a taxi to Clark Key which is a really cool area with lots of bars and restaurants undercover and reminded me of Disney World. We sat at a bar called The Clinic which had wheelchairs for customers to sit on and tables that were shaped like paracetamols! Very interesting! After Happy hour had ended the three of us found a Perisian restaurant and were served some delicious food, each served with a green chilli that we discovered were all of varying strength - mine being the hottest! - so we decided to swap them all around and then dared each other to finish the last bits not knowing which was which. Poor Richard got the hottest and it brought tears to his eyes! After dinner we sat out the front and shared a shisha whilst watching a lady do some belly dancing - I don't know who was more impressed...me or the boys!
About 1am we got a taxi and I got dropped off at my hostel.
