Today the weather cooperated and after our breakfast of dry bread with boiled eggs we set out for Pashupatinath, a holy site on the river, where they cremate the dead, openly, where not just family, but the public, can witness. The walk was long, dusty, and hot. The city has certainly become more lively over the last three days we've been here. More shops are opening and many more cars and bikes are on the road. Still though, I would say it is only about 10-15%...

Well today was uneventful up until just now. We slept in and had our hotel breakfast of two pieces of white bread and a hard-boiled egg. Must say we were grateful and ate it but don't try it at home, at least not without water. It's dry and you are apt to choke on it. After breakfast we laid in bed and relaxed. The television was working and Office Space was on! Oh the little things. We went for a walk in the day, headed toward Pashupatinath, an open cremat...

Again we woke early this morning with the prospect of flying out of Lukla, to Kathmandu, and then eventually out of Nepal. We packed our bags and waited, and waited, and waited. A few hours later, at 730, we were informed all flights were cancelled today. We weren't sure what to do. The weather forecasted clear(ish) skies today with rain and snow the next four in a row, which meant if we didn't get out to Kathmandu today, who knows how long it could be! Last nig...

Tomorrow we fly to Lukla and from the airport set out on foot for day 1 of Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek. We spent most of the day shopping again for last minute "necessary" items. If anyone has ever read my mom's newsletters she often writes when abroad you'd know all she ever talks about is food. Unlike in Italy, culture isn't centered around food.
