Today is Saturday, the weekend a long one as Monday is Columbus Day.
After breakfast we went around the rest of the peninsula from Pebble Beach back to Monterey and out of town. The beaches were all super busy with people trying to catch the last of the summer sun. Just along from the
lighthouse there was a wedding going on.
We drove back through Cannery Row which was buzzing. The coast road moved along quite nicely. At every beach access point there were dozens of cars, the beaches busy but few were in the cool water. A lot of surfers sat in the beaches hoping to catch some decent waves, for the most part they were just small dumpy waves.
A lot of flocks of Pelicans were heading in the opposite direction to us as if they'd finally worked out it s getting cold so it's time to head south.
We hit the sea fog here and there, down low on the horizon with blue sunny skies above, very odd. Temps stayed in the mid teens for most of the day.
Once we hit SF it was the clearest we've seen it, blue skies without a hint of cloud let alone fog so we had high hopes of a great view of today's Fleet Week festivities.
We got back to our hotel in SF but were a bit too early to check in so just parked up and went for some lunch. We caught the bus down to the bay, it was chockers, everyone else had the same idea it would seem :-) when nearly there we could hear planes overhead, the warm up crew before the big act, the blue Angels.
We got there eventually and a short walk took us to a great spot with the harbour wall to sit on. The fog which had been absent up til now was slowly making its way in fri the bridge to behind Alcatraz.
As we arrived a biplane was doing aerobatics, pretty good show it was too.
Then came the blue Angels, they were awesome for over half an hour they performed solo, in groups of anything from 2 to 6 of them at a time.
After them a came their support plane, a C130 did a few laps of honour flying low and slow and then zipping through quite fast. Next up was a 747 doing slow runs and being as aerobatic as such a big plane can.
In between the planes flying we were entertained by a seal playing below us and Pelicans gliding by.
All up it was a good show. A short walk took us back to the buses which were far from as crammed as they'd been going down so it was a quite pleasant run back to our hotel.
We checked in and settled back in. The wifi is a bit ordinary in the rooms so we were standing on the balcony checking in etc and a young punk came up to check into the room two down from us and started having a go at Pete of the what you looking at kind of thing. Pete didn't back down at all and the d*** went into his room with his poor woman. Not too long later he was having a go at her threatening to call the cops and have her thrown out cos the room was in his name, tosser. It put a bit of a dampener on the day, totally uncalled for.
We went to a local restaurant Chez Maman, awesome food and a couple of drinks.
We sat on the "patio" which translated to the street lol. There was a constant parade of people, great people watching spot. Many who passed left the unmistakable waft of gunga as they went about their business. A steady stream of uber drivers dropped off and collected groups of people, far more of them than regular cabs.
After dinner it was back to the hotel and settled in, watched a couple of downloads before bedding down for the night.
