It's been a coolish but sunny day. We headed off by bus straight after breakfast to our appointment with Rich Ross, we were meeting at the T Rex at 10.30 lol
It all went without a hitch, cool bus ride up and down the hills of San Fran and a short walk to the park. It's a lovely green space, one of many in the heart of the city. There's a lot of statues, some fountains and an amphitheater with park bench seating under the trees which looked like a great space for small concerts.
We arrived on time and Rich came down, greeted us and took us on an awesome tour behind the scenes. It's always interesting to see what we do done on a seriously bigger scale. We got to see Rich's pet project, a tiny Pygmy seahorse seriously cute and not something you get to see every day. He then dropped us off at the rainforest where you can walk amongst the butterflies and birds all flitting about. There were exhibits of things I was happy were in glass boxes, snakes, lizards and very cute but often poisonous frogs.
The aquarium itself was pretty bloody good. We got to check out the displays from the front having seen them from behind with Rich. The main reef tank was so full of fish at times it appeared to almost be a solid wall of them lol there was a tank with a few morays in it and a lot of red line cleaners who were slaving away on their skin, in their gills and mouths, an awesome sight :-) there were some very cool jelly displays (my current fave thing ) and pretty much everything except for mammals. We had a ball checking it all out :-)
We checked out some spectacular wildlife photography, went through the African area, the skulls exhibit, had lunch in the on site cafe and caught the show at the planetarium to round out a top day.
We caught the bus back to our hotel and had a bit of a break.
We saw on the news that this weekend kicks off fleet week in San Fran culminating in a big fly by by the Blue Angels so we've decided to come back for it in Saturday. Monterey is already booked so we can't easily just stay on til then. It's only a 3 or so hour drive back up and we kept time at the end in case something came up and looks like it has :-)
We also checked on line to see how visible the Golden Gate was and found it wasn't too foggy for a change so off we went again on another bus. We caught it almost all the way to Fort Mason, walked the rest of the way into the park and were rewarded by a really good view of the bridge. As the sun went down we walked down to the fort pier and took some more sunset pics, the view was pretty much perfect.
We bussed back to the hotel, collected dinner from the Double Decker burger joint again (they were so good last night we had to do it again lol) and settled in for the night.
