It's been another mild day, a little gloomy but Not too bad.
We took our time getting started today and when we did we went straight to Cannery Row which was only a short drive from our hotel. The shoreline between us and there is a little rocky but interesting, lots of other accommodation places and expensive looking homes.
We parked up and went straight for the aquarium. It's ironically, given it preaches preservation of marine life, housed in an old sardine canning factory. They've kept a lot of the old machinery etc as a display in the foyer which is kinda cool. We tried to buy a behind the scenes tour but they were all sold out for today, should've thought about it sooner I guess :-(. Ah well, an excuse to come again another time.
There's a lot of really great displays, many very much aimed at kids, hopefully it sparks an admiration and appreciation of the sea. But plenty there for us big kids too :-) the jelly displays in particular were very cool. We loved the small puffin pool, we are now convinced it was them we saw fishing when we were on the ship. There's several outside sort of wharf areas too which I assume some days you can see seals etc from but there wasn't anything about when we checked them out.
Several hours later we'd seen it all including attending one of the presentations and left to explore the rest of the local area. We had a late lunch at Sly McFly's, excellent calamari steaks which made us feel just a little guilty having not long seen these gorgeous creatures at the aquarium.
Time for some chores so back to the hotel to collect the washing. The nearby laundrette was pretty fab. It had heaps of Halloween decorations incl a life size creepy butler who spoke each time someone walked past it and the legs and butt of someone sticking out of a washing machine as if stuck in there lol. Next up grocery shopping for dinner and back home via the lighthouse area for a few drinks and said dinner.
