Vicious Vaccines!
I had my first Rabies vaccination last week, not a pleasant experience. About an hour after receiving the jab, I turned into a shivering wreck. I went pale, my muscles & joints were aching, glands were swollen and I suddenly felt tired. Fortunately I wasn't frothing at the mouth or chasing after my own tail.
It certainly affected me. After a week, I have finally returned to full colour, my body's defences have passed the first test. However before the little soldiers have chance to draw breath, they'll be sorry to hear that I'm going for my second dosage tomorrow morning
I would obviously recommend you speaking to your GP before taking any medication, however I have a few tips on how I went about my vaccines.
Free vaccines
Not all vaccines are free, however despite some pharmacies charging in excess of £100, the following you can obtain free with your GP:
·Diphtheria
·Tetanus
·Polio
·Typhoid
·hepatitus A (they last 20 years and I've already had them in 95 & 96)
Superdrug loophole
If you live near a Superdrug with a travel centre, they are currently running an offer for 25% off your next Superdrug branded purchase (including medicine) providing you complete a survey online. In my situation, head down to Superdrug, buy a pack of chewing gum, complete the survey in 5 minutes and you will be provided with a code.
I saved £££'s by doing this. The course of Rabies & Hepatitis B vaccines should cost £234, however with 25% discount I only paid £175.50. £58.50, a saving not to be sniffed at!
Anyhow, I hope I can provide more useful information as my trip progresses, that's providing tomorrow's Rabies dose doesn't finish me off!
