Back to the City!
After spending almost a month on the beautiful Thai & Malaysian beaches it was time to move on to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
Although you cannot beat the sound of waves crashing on White sandy beaches, you have to appreciate the hustle and bustle of a city.
KL isn't as intense as Bangkok, but pretty similar in it's atmosphere. There is also a hint of Shanghai with the golden triangle of financial industries and tall skyscraper buildings such as the Petronas Towers (pictured and featured on the film Entrapment).
Although my stay in KL is brief (barely 2days) I have been here long enough to soak up the culture. Similar to Langkawi the city is highly populated by Muslims. You can hear the prayer calls five times a day, and some food outlets are closed as it's currently Ramadan.
One major differing factor between KL and Langkawi is the price of alcohol. Alcohol is highly taxed here and Langkawi is a duty free island therefore the difference in price is approximately 3x.
I'm about to set off from my guest house to meet Steve (my lifetime friend Rhiannon's Dad). It will be great to see a friendly face from back home.
Tonight I jet off to Singapore. I wish there was a machine that teleports me to Nottingham for todays game and back to south east Asia again. Good luck to the reds for the new season. Seems like no time at all since I wished them luck standing on the great wall of china!
