My final night in Singapore was sleepless thanks to what I can only describe as a hippo sleeping in the bunk next to me. His snoring was the worst I've ever heard as it ripped through the protective barrier of my ear plugs!
5am soon arrived and it was time for me to get up & showered. Just as I went into the kitchen to pick up my complimentary toast, there was a sizeable rat sat staring at the bread. Any normal person would just walk on & get breakfast elsewhere, but as I'm on a budget I made sure I ate my free toast!
It wasn't really a pleasant final memory of South East Asia, however that will never bring down the hundreds of fantastic memories I have accumulated on my trip so far. South East Asia is a real gem of a place, and I would certainly recommend it to anyone!
The time has come for me to move on, and I have done so in the form of reaching Sydney, Australia.
My friends who I met in Ko Chang (Rachael & Tracey) have very kindly let me stay at their place in Bondi for the duration of my time in Sydney. Upon arrival after my 8 hour flight, I was welcomed with two friendly faces and some pasta & garlic bread.
On the first day I literally slept till 2pm (mainly thanks to the snoring guy in Singapore!) therefore I didn't feel it warranted a blog post. I did however take a short walk with Rach, down to the beach which is not far at all from their apartment.
Yesterday, I made sure I set my alarm, woke up early and went for a run along Bondi Beach. The sun was out, although the temperature isn't quite what I'd expect from Australia (they do have winter too apparently).
Bondi beach is fantastic, even in winter. The sand feels like flour, the waves are fantastic for surfing and it seems to be fitness central here. Everyone is either running or surfing or both. I saw many people have surfing lessons which looked fun, except for the ice cold water.
In the afternoon I took a train ride into the City and visited the Harbour Bridge & Sydney Opera House. Sydney very much reminds me of being in London. From names of places & streets to the buildings, transport & pubs.
The Harbour Bridge was a fair size, I saw a number of people doing the walking tour where you walk over the top of it. I figured with the issue I have with heights, I should give that one a miss.
The Opera House was spectacular also. Beautiful architecture and I didn't realise how big it was until I was stood next to it.
After taking in this scenery for a couple of hours, I took a walk back through the Botanic Gardens and made my way back to Bondi Junction.
I do really like Sydney so far, I just can't get over the change in temperature. When I left Singapore it was 35 degrees. When I touched down in Sydney it was 14 degrees. That's more than a 20degree drop therefore I'm bound to feel the difference.
I'd like to see what Sydney & Bondi is like with the full heat of summer. Perhaps that's an excuse to come back!
