Today we woke to another grey sky but no rain (fingers crossed) though forecast is for some rain later. Gothenburg is a two hour drive from Helsingborg straight up the E06/E20 motorway. Gothenburg is the largest port in Sweden. Well like all the travel we have done so far the two hundred plus kilometer drive was easy and relaxing. Not long after parking the car the rain started a little once we got to the river and boarded an open sightseeing boat the rain got serious! In spite of the rain trickling down inside our ponchos we enjoyed the tour around the old city moat and the Harbour. Our next stop was the indoor food market where they sell the most amazing range of meats including Moose (I must try some before leaving Sweden) You can also buy bread, cheeses, olives etc. We them headed into the centre of the city for lunch which was a good opportunity to take the weight off our feet for a while. After lunch we went to the famous 'Fish Church' an indoor market where they sell all sorts of interesting fish and seafood. I saw many fish that we do not see in Australia including Angler fish, Cod, Plaice and Hake. I must day I expected the place to be bigger than it was.
We then headed to the wooden buildings of Haga aNd visited some interesting shops (yes you guessed it a bit more retail therapy) by then it was time to rest our weary feet and have an afternoon drink before the final walk back to the car.
All in all inspire of the rain we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Gothenburg. After an easy two hour drive back home we put together a simple meal at home before falling into bed.
