Khoa Sok National Park, Southern Thailand.
Another Catamaran, couple of hours in a minivan driven by a nutter, 5 mins in the back of a pick up through the lanes (seen deliverance? the Banjo fella?), and we made it to Khao Sok village, and checked into Jasmine Garden Resort. This wasn't the rustic place by the river i'd booked....that got cancelled, we met half way, still no spa, but alot nicer place, 100m from the river.... After exploring the local area, we booked up for a full day trip to Khao Sok National Park the following day, and chilled.
Mich has been amazing, most of the things shes scared of weve done / or seen, whilst having to fight off a touch of the Thai Tummy (not that she's complaining, of course).
Its minutes after leaving Ratchaprapa Dam in the rickety old long tail boat, that the enormity of the National Park materialises. Every direction, water and limestone cliffs and mountains. Amazing.
An hour latr we moored onto a floating pontoon and log cabins miles from anywhere with Gibbons hooting all around, and had free time to swim, kayak or chill. Obvs the kayak! An hour or so padling along, scanning the lake banks for a sighting of the numerous wild animals resident in the park ('So say', Tigers, Sun Bear, Asian Elephants, Guar (look it up!), Deer, Asian Black Bear, Malayan Tapir, monkeys, gibbons, macaques, otters, mongoose, snakes, etc, etc,) and all i saw were dragon flys and butterflys, haha. Got back to Mich, to find lunch being served, giant gourami (i last saw these in pets at home fish tanks), green curry, thai omellete and fruit. Mich loved the fruit, lol.
Back on the Long Tail, and 15 mins later were jungle trekking! Took Ya Ya (our guide) minutes to point out tarantulas, trap door spiders, Flying lizards, assorted lizards, langur monkeys, and more. End of the Trek, pissing with sweat, onto a bamboo raft over to a 'Coral Cave', spiders, and bats, and the brief history, and were back on route to the Dam, spotting Ospreys and Eagles en route. Probs the best day for me so far in Thailand, amazing place, could stay for at least a fortnight, including some night treks (dont want to push it...). Few pics posted of the day. Cheers, until the next blog! x
