Up nice and early we had a yummy porridge with apple and cinnamon, all fired up for the day of boarding and tumbles!! We booked a progressive package so we could get on the bigger slopes but as it turns out we were probably a bit too eager as we were no way ready to go down proper gradients when we haven't quite got the grip of turning yet, we had the lesson which re-capped on what we'd learnt the day before and were left to our own devices to get our skills (ha) up to scratch.
Not sure what happened over night but we were much better yesterday, we know what we're doing now and maybe that's why it's so frustrating. Practice makes perfect and all that…
By 3pm we were pretty battered and looked like it too, our calf muscles were cramping, my arms aching from constantly pushing myself up, and thigh muscles burning from having to bend my legs constantly. I doubt I will be able to walk in the morning. It's nice to have a new hobby and we both really want to keep this up, I haven't seen Steve with such a big smile and excited about anything like this in ages!!
Calling it a day we bundled into the car and made our way to go down the mountain but were told to stop as someone had just gone over the edge! You hear things like this but never expect to be on the mountain when something like that happens. Reports were that the car that went over was a 2WD without snow chains, going too fast and spun out of control. Over here when you drive up mountains in your vehicle, 2WD especially, you have to have snow chains fitted as it gives more grip for the tires, it also turns out that the couple were English and probably had no clue how to drive in snow and icy conditions let alone about snow chains even though they were in the boot.
The car had rolled 200m over the edge and amazingly the woman walked away from it and her partner had head injuries but was alive.
Fortunately for you all after that little story you'll be pleased to know we can't carry on snowboarding unless we start earning some money so we're heading back to Christchurch to get the job hunting going.
