Bought some stuff for breakfast this morning from a nearby mini market (we’d been getting a little tired of the 2* hotel’s version of petit dejeuner, where the only surprise is what flavour jam they give you to spread on your crusty white pain).
Talking of ‘pain’ - Spent the morning on the beach at Propriana. That, combined with a good dollop of strategically-applied Savlon, should help relieve some of the trauma that has arisen, ‘down there’, over the last sweat-pouring week.
Over a long lunch at a beach bar, we concluded that we had run out of road on this island and that our continued tour would be best suited on the mainland (it would appear that the best cycle routes are in the north of the island and that, with hindsight, we should have explored more of those before heading south). We saw that there was a ferry in port that was Marseille-bound tonight and enquired about getting a passage but was told that it was full. Hmmm.
So....hopped on a bus back to Ajaccio and exchanged tickets for tonight’s overnight sailing to Toulon.
Would we recommend cycling on Corsica? No. Having said that, we came to climb the mountains and we did that. And that part was great. The scenery is stunning. The problem is that the larger roads feel unsafe in that what cycle lanes there are are intermittent and the cars and lorries are often too quick. What small roads there are tend to join up with nothing.
Looking forward to week or so touring Provence ...
