Another warm day - just touching 30 by noon.
Having been ejected from the ferry at the unearthly hour of 05.30am (having been subjected to reveille at 04.30am), we hung around in the terminal for a couple of hours, waiting for it to become light enough to set off.
We cycled up from Toulon to Aix-en-Province - a distance of some 80k. There were two hill/mountain ranges to cross (which involved around 3,500ft of climbing). It was good to be back on the safer roads of Provence. It felt really hot but we managed to drink enough water to stave off the worst of sunstroke.
It was strange how few cyclists we saw on Corsica. Today, Saturday, we saw hundreds of cyclists swarming around.
Aix’ is a very compact, very busy old town. The small streets of the Old Town were very crowded and the percentage wearing masks, while walking around, is the highest of anywhere I’ve been (maybe 60%?). There were a couple of weddings in progress as we tracked down an hotel. Wedding pictures with all, bar the bride, masked-up! Even the groom worn a chinstrap.
Thinking of heading north then east towards the Gorges of Verdon.
