Cycled SW from I’lîle-Rousse and passed Algajola and Calvi on the A road before turning inland and heading for the hills.
The first climb of the day took us up and over a pass in the Filosorma range. It was a hot climb of around 50 mins with a nice decent on the south side. Thereafter, we followed the ups and downs of the quiet D81 road which afforded great views down over the Golfs of Girolata and Porto.
We ended up at a high level coastal village called Piana. Piana was one of the few places on the island that had been recommended to us (by my friend Mike Russum) and that we were sure to visit. It’s a spectacular piece of coastline - the red rock cliffs rise from the sea in all sorts of strange formations.
Today we covered covered around 120k and climbed, according to our cycling app., Strava, 5,933 ft.
Found a place to stay in Piana.
We’d promised my friend Mike that we’d witness the sunset from the cocktail terrace of Les Roches Rouges hotel (“something you must do before you die!”). If you know Mike, wasn’t a promise we could break!

Richard Hunter Wow what an adventure so far. I am full of admiration for both of you. We had a great holiday in Calvi many years ago and I almost got wiped out by a plane scooping sea water to fight a forest fire whilst I was windsurfing. Really enjoying your blog. I am still doing DIY in Chate l mine would read fixing new floor, decorating, rebuilding fire place, new skirtings and 3 hour return trips to the nearest DIY store! Good luck on the rest of the trip. We will both be under house arrest! Richard
