I got back to BA on Easter Saturday morning, the overnight journey had been fine but quite disjointed so I didn't get much sleep so I chilled in the hostel on Easter Sat. Obviously my accommodation on this trip would never rival my accommodation on my first visit to BA. Almost everyone I've met has stayed at the Millhouse hostel, BA's big party hostel - on my trip I've grown a tad wary of these large party hostels as they can be quite impersonal and because they are so big it can be difficult to meet people - but against my better judgement I decided to stay there!
The hostel was as I expected fairly comfortable, with very good amenities and full of people looking to PARTY. I think most people would agree I am a fan of the party but I didn't seem to find my party stride here. I did have one night out which was ok but a combination of boredom and drinking vodka served by the pint (I should have learned this is a bad idea on my first visit to BA) led to an early finish to my night out!
On Easter Sunday I visited San Telmo, where I'd been 2 weeks earlier - but this time I made the effort to get there early - it was a completely different place - it was cool to see the antique market but I think we lucked out with our unintentional late arrival the first time!
On Monday I went back to the drum show La bomba del Tiempo, which did not disappoint - it was equally as awesome as the first time, it was completely different, this time there were two guests, one play a traditional Zimbabwean string instrument (quite weird really but awesome) and a guy with an electric guitar which was AWESOME!!!
And that brings me to Tuesday 26/4/11, 28 weeks to the day from leaving home! s*** i read over it loads of times!!!
Quite simply put, without any hint of exaggeration these 28 weeks have been the best of my life! The thought of going to New Zealand and hopefully finding a job and settling down for a while (as yet unknown period of time) is both a little scary and exciting.
In the last 28 weeks I've learned to dive on Zanzibar, reached the summit of Kilimanjaro, swam, jumped and chilled in Lake Malawi, swam on TOP of Victoria Falls, chilled with elephants in the Okavango Delta, hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu, hiked the Colca Canyon, rang in the new year on the beach in Mancora, cycled down the highest volcano in Ecuador, seen a massive anaconda in the Amazon, swam with turtles, sharks, sea lions and iguanas in the Galapagos, visited the largest salt flat in the world (twice), stared at the stars from the driest desert in the world, biked, hiked, and rode a horse (and fell off) in Tupiza, visited the Pantanal, visited Iguazu/Iguacu, lived (and barely survived) Carnaval in Rio, hiked the W trail in Torres Del Paine, visited the Moreno glacier, climbed and slid down Volcan Villarica, drank amazing wines in Mendoza, partied at Lollapalooza (The National rock), chilled in Uruguay and lived it up in BA!
I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity, it's been made all the better by the people who came from home to share it with me (Aoidin, Sanchia, Emma and Tara) and all the amazing new friends I've met along the way!
