We arrived into Bariloche on Sunday (20th March) quite late in the evening and made our way to our hostel, didn't really see or do much other than eat some pizza and drink some beers!
The following day we were headed for Cerro Campanario a lookout point over the city and lakes but before we went I was trying to sort out my Muse/U2 ticket - there had been a bit of a kerfuffle and it didn't look like I could actually pick up the tickets - so then the most amazing thing happened - they agreed to refund the tickets and Tara found Lollapalooza - I music festival on in Santiago de Chile on the 2nd and 3rd of April with The Killers, The National, The Flaming Lips, James and many more acts - so we have bought tickets for that and are pretty excited!!
So eventually we headed off to Cerro Campanario - a lookout point about 20km from town - it was stunning! So so beautiful. The views below were great, it's hard to explain - it is just stunning lakes of varying sizes in all directions, they are flanked by the most amazing green islands and mountains! Again it is hard to describe the beauty and hope the pictures have captured at least a bit of how stunning the scenery is!
That night for the first time in a very long time (discounting the W trail - because that was just pasta/rice) we cooked dinner. And without being modest it was bloody lovely!! The next day the weather was great again (we were very lucky with the weather in Bariloche) so we headed back out of town near where we'd been the previous day and hired bicycles to cycle the Circuito Chico, a 25km cycle route that takes you around many of the beautiful lakes in the Bariloche area!
Bariloche is a very hilly area and this was very apparent on the Circuito Chico - at times it was punishing - the hills weren't even particularly steep but they seemed to go on forever!! The downhills were a lot of fun though! Although at times my legs felt like they were on fire the views more than made up for it - the scenery around Bariloche is simply stunning! That evening we returned to Bariloche and went to meet Tom and Sarah the couple I had met on the W trek. We went for an amazing steak dinner, some of the best I've ever eaten, and including some sides and a bottle of wine it cost us about £10 each! We then returned to a nice pub where we tried a number of the different beers they had on offer - it was a really nice and fun night!! The following day Tara and I were headed to Pucon but decided to take the slightly longer but more scenic route via San Martin de Los Andes.
