So we had already booked our tickets way in advance before even asking if it was ok to have the day off! We went to work on Thursday, too excited to work, rushed home and got our bags packed, fed and washed before Dave picked us up to take us to the airport!
We waited around for our flight to be called and jumped on board. The flight was pretty long as normal, but we arrived soon enough and were greeted by an equally tired Chelsea in the arrivals/departure lounge, it was great seeing Chelsea again. Mark was still working away and we would see him later on Friday arvo. The weather had been pretty rough before we arrived, a cyclone/tropic storm had passed Cairns and moved further south.
We crashed out at Chelsea's and tried to get as much sleep as possible! It wasn't too humid but wasn't easy to fall asleep!
We woke up on Friday had some yummy pancakes Chelsea made before heading off to see the sights of Cairns, which we haven't seen much off! First stop was the Crystal Cascades, which were beautiful. We went for a little walk along the creek, before finding a water hole that satisfied us to jump in! The water was pretty chilly which was a good thing as it was humid and hot! I brought my GoPro camera and had a bit of a play with it at the creek. It made some good footage and I am impressed with this tiny (but very expensive) camera!
After our little dip we got back in the car and drove all the way to Barron Falls, which were pumping due to all the rain that has fallen over the past week. We had a little walk through the jungle spotting a huntsman spider, (eeerk!) and lots of beetles that made on hell of a noise! We arrived at the falls and it was pretty big, gallons of water was tumbling over the edge, must of rain a lot!
We headed back into the car to head to Cairns centre as Mark was home already, we drove all the way back to meet him at the man made pool and beach. It was great seeing Mark and we all had a good catch up in the pool until early evening when it got a bit cold and we headed home.
The wind had picked up a lot and there was a torrent going through the house, blowing things off the table etc. It was nice as it made the whole house cool and not humid! We got washed and dressed ready to go out for dinner along the esplande. I had an amazing steak and properly too much to drink! Chelsea showed us the rest of the town and we had a few more drinks and a dance in one of the clubs. We left at 2am as we were all tired and had a lot to do tomorrow.
I got woken up by the sound of Alex's voice around 7 or 8am! I got up around 9ish, got washed and dressed in my Australia Day shorts and helped out. I helped cooked breakfast while the boys constructed the famous slip and slide in the garden, it was still pretty windy and the tarp kept blowing away which was annoying Mark!
After we had pretty much set everything up the wind died, just in time for slip and slide time! Mark and Chelsea's friends came round and the drinking started at 11am. It was a beautiful, hot and sunny day so lots of water had to be drunk to advoid dehydration!
We had a pretty awesome time, chilling in the pool, sliding down the slip and slide into the pool. Stu managed to miss the whole pool and one stage and landed on the grass the other side! It was pretty amusing and managed to get it on camera!!
We had a tasty BBQ and played cricket as well. In general it was an amazing day and I had a lot of fun! Glad we could be part of it this year rather than seeing videos and pictures posted by Chelsea on facebook!
Mark manage to find a tree frog in the house, which was so cute and I got my picture taken with him! I think most people left around 1ish and we headed to bed as well.
Sunda morning we woke up, not too hungover thank god, and got washed dressed and some breakfast. I was impressed that Mark didn't actually pass out at all yesterday and thought that was a great achievement!!! We headed to The Rocks creek, and spent the morning jumping off the rock into the water. It was another hot day and had some relief in the cool waters.
Chelsea went to take us to the creek where she used to play in and where her mum grew up, it was a beautiful creek and pretty cold again! The water was much fast flowing than the other we had been too. There was a few kids and Maoris jumping off the banks which much of bee 10m+ into the water below. Pretty scary!
We had to leave, but we stopped by Chelsea's grandmas house to quickly change into warm clothes for our flight home. I wished the flights weren't $1500 each on the bank holiday Monday so we could of stayed longer.
We grabbed some food at the airport before we had to say goodbye and leave Cairns to go home.
We enjoyed Cairns again, plus the weather was pretty good compared to what Bundaberg was getting lashed with! Lant and Aish had a warm welcome to Australia when they landed in Brisbane, lots of rain and floods!
The flight home was too long as normal but the weather was a lot cooler and less humid which was a relieve!
