Another night down, this time it was way to hot in the van so I struggled to sleep up in the roof!
We decided to head towards Mackay for the night, we stopped at the tourist information centre also where the giant mango lives, which in recent news has been 'stolen' as part of an advertisement stunt!
The guy in the information centre told us we had to go to Bowen, which was five minutes back from where we came from. It was a good shout actually!
The town was tiny, but extremely cute. There was several art work on the buildings around town showing the history of Bowen. So we wondered round taking pictures of the art and stopping for an apple turnover! Yummy!
We had parked by the harbour/marina where the film Australia was shot, in particular Darwin. I will compare the locations when I hit Darwin!
We headed to the top of the lookout point which had some breathtaking views. The water was so blue it was unreal! We managed to startle a 'roo that was having a nap, we tried to follow it for a photo but I didn't feel to comfortable walking through the bush!
We headed back on the road after lunch and made one more stop off at Airlie Beach. A very back packer type of town, not much to it. We had a wonder round which was nice before we headed off one more time to Mackay.
We arrived at the Big4 park in Mackay, and was doing our usual setting up, plugging in the van to get electricity however, the van didn't want to play. Something kept tripping the power so we had to call the hire company to try and fix the problem. They asked if we could stay in the fan without power (we did have gas to cook with) but Dad said there was four of us and we needed the air-con (which is true). In the end they put us up in a cabin in the park and they were going to book and electrician to come a see us in the morning.
It was quite a comfortable night actually! Stu and I had the bed in the living room, which was a single and had another single bed underneath that pulled out. Stu was scared he was going to roll over under the bed and get stuck!
Dinner was less cramped today, and we finished the night with more coffee liquor and cards!
