Wednesday 25th jan 2012.
Today we were up early and picked up outside the hostel at 7am. we were then on out way to milford sounds. en route we stopped at several different view points and did a couple of little walks thru bushland. the views on our way were spectacular and well worth doing during the summer on a clear blue day. its amazing to see clear blue skies, heat beaming down from the sun and snow on the mountain tops! There were 15 of us on the mini bus and the tour guide, nigel was very good (and spoke fluent japanese. as all i could see were his eyes in the center mirror all i could think was 'nigel the japs eye'...haha) we stopped off and he cooked us lunch. my fav...bbq! there were chinese marinated chicken skewers, beef skewers, sausages, bread, pasta salad and dry coleslaw...very nice! Then the windy route carried on. We got to a tunnel called 'hommer tunel' which was 1.29 km long i think and was man made. a man called homer made the first tunnel (in new zealand or the world im not to sure) as he realised that one side to the other wasnt too far and so got to with a pick axe. another fact about it is that once every year theres a nudy run thru it at night as it isnt well lit...fingers crossed its in the next couple of days. we then arrived at the ferry port at 1.59 and ran for the 2pm ferry...we made it...just. on there we set off on a 1hour 40min cruise around the milford sound mountains, they were magnificent. thruout the day we saw lots of cool water falls, including one that makes women look 10yrs younger if it sprays them (dont worry ladies ive bottled lots up for u all) and helps hair regrowth for balding men (u can thank me later dave!) The sun was out and the skies were clear so a great day for it! the picture ive posted with the blog i didnt take but is very similar to the ones i did take...nice huh! we then hopped on the coach and headed back. we got back just after 8 and we got off in the city center and went for some tea. lynette had said that u cant visit queenstown without having a furg burger so we had one. one word...amazing! best burger ive ever had. we're now chillin before tomorrows activities...
