From Noosa we went to Rainbow Beach where we were to start our 3 day Fraser Island trip. Everyone had told us how great this trip was and Nathan even went so far as saying its the best 3 days of his life, so we had very high hopes for this trip.
In case your wondering what Fraser is....its a paradise island where groups of 11 drive around the island in a 4wd and camp on the beach for 2 nights.
It all started half promising until the groups had to go shopping for food for the trip-what a nightmare. In our group of 11 we had 4 canadians and the rest english, all of which were under 21, leaving Erin and I to do all of the driving- GREAT. As you may have heard there had been a huge accident , where 3 died and this happened just two days after we set off, so that kind of put us all off a bit but we were still up for a great laugh.
So it started off with going the Lakes, (McKenzie & Birrabean) which were amazing, clear blue waters and white sand. Here we chilled, while the rest of the group decided to start on the Goon at 10:30am. Oh yes Erin and I were in for a treat for the rest of the day.
That night we camped with about 50 other people from different groups, which was great fun and fortunately Erin and I managed to quickly catch up on the drinking. That night the canadians had a 'brain wave' and decided to provide the music and light for the while camp from our van. - so you can guess what happened when we tried to start the car in the morning. we were going nowhere. Luckily some aussies came to our rescue and we were off on our travels round the island again.
We went to a few more lovely lakes and beaches where we decided to camp the 2nd night. Much to the delight of us girls there were no facilites, so it was back to how it was in the outback.
The last day we were stranded until the tide went out but then after went to Lake wabby, which was surrounded by huge sand dunes. Our trip back to the ferry was quite eventful, as two of the canadians decided to go missing at the Lake and hold us up by 45 mins, bearing in mind we were given specific times we had to drive along the beach etc. So i had to put my foot down a bit and make up for lost time. Unfortunately whilst driving along our cool box decided that it didnt want to go back on the ferry and instead fell off onto the beach, spreading beer cans everywhere and breaking in the process. Whilst erin chased the sleeping mats down the beach, the lads quickly got out and rescued their beers. Good news we made it back on time and managed to get away with not paying for a new cool box, as the canadians were very sly and swapped it over for a new cool box back at the office. We were happy they saved us lots of money.
Overall a great trip with some very funny memories but we will say the driving was pretty scary at times, especially with 9 back seat drivers in one breath telling me im going too slow and the next minute im going too fast- oh and they found it too bumpy along the sand dunes. Dont know what the hell they wanted me to do about that! lol
