Hey Everyone - us again!!!
We arrived in Thailand on Monday night courtesy of one of Emirates brand new double decker airbuses and it was amazing! Luckily, we got two of the greatest seats on the plane for leg room, which was sweet!!!!!!
When we had collected our bags we headed outside and we were pointed towards the endless queue of taxis, we didn't realise what a trip we were in for. Once we'd packed our bags into the boot and were on our way the driver asked if we would like some "English" music putting on the stereo, obviously we said yes and within 30 seconds we had Celine Dion's live concert on, not a second later the taxi driver had flipped the passenger sun visor down to reveal what can only be described as a 6 inch flatscreen and the music we were listening to was actually a DVD with the footage playing to us!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!
We arrived at the main tourist area in Bangkok, Khao San Road, where we were greeted by hundreds of paraletic drunks who were enjoying the delights of the bars and street venders. We must have looked like lost souls, wandering down the road with our backpacks on, dodging the drunks but we finally found a hostel and settled for the night!
The next day we decided to move onto another hostel, luckily this time with free wifi! We ventured out of the hostel and spent the day wandering around the market stalls which line both sides of all the streets. A few purchases later, and many an offer of a tailored suit or a tuk tuk ride to see the sights for only 10 baht = about 20p; a scam to get you into the tuk tuk, we headed for the internet cafe to upload the photos from Hong Kong. The 'man' behind the counter was very camp, he told us to take a seat and it wasn't until about 45 minutes into our internet uploading session that 'he' stood up to tidy the desks, which were by now empty, when we noticed that he/she had fake boobs - much to Kies disgust!
That evening we went to the bar nextdoor to our hostel and watched a great collection of bands; our personal favourite was a Thai teenage soloist, who sang Otis Readings - Sitting on the Fock of the Bay (that is not a spelling mistake!!!). We jest but he was infact very entertaining and everytime somebody tipped him he stopped the song and shouted "I Love You" or he just changed the words in the song and sang "I Love You" instead. Brilliant.
