Our first proper day of volunteering! A driver drove us (along with another 4 volunteers) to the school. The school is located in a very poor area of Nairobi. It is a charity school which means these children get to attend a school which is better than the state school. Apparently it is typical for there to be about 100 kids in each class at the state schools and the children get treated very poorly so this is a much better alternative for children. There are 2...

In the morning we just hung out at the volunteer house while we waited for our new volunteer place to pick us up at about 12:30. We met Alice and the driver Steve. They drove 2.5 hours to pick us up and then it was another 1.5 hours to get back (only costing us $20). We arrived at the volunteer house and immediately got a really positive vibe about the place. Our first morning at our volunteering was not well organised. We had no idea what our schedule was, where we were meant to be, when breakfast was or when we were going to get orientation. After a nice night spent with the jazz festival blaring next door, we enjoyed (another) buffet breakfast. If we keep up the buffet breakfasts, we might need to buy 2 seats on a plane each!
