Wednesday 23rd January
An early wake up call for us at 6am, ready for our departure at 7am, taking us to the 4x4 hire company to check everything such as camping equipments, food, checking on 4x4 so that way we didn't leave anything that was forgotten to take with us on the trip! Along with 8 of us in the group, there were 2 extras that we didn't meet in the group so that made the total of 10 people in the group now. There were 4 drivers that did volunteer to drive 4x4, that included Daniel. So after boarding all of our stuff onto the rooftop storage, noone volunteered to drive first so the mechanic had to pick and unfortunately Daniel was the first one to drive. He was nervous due to no experiences of beach driving and after watching the videos, he just hoped that he won't be causing any accidents!
We then followed the mechanic's car to the ferry terminal. Daniel got the hang of driving 4x4 and was getting bit confident. From arriving to the Ferry Terminal, we were now on our own with Mechanic going back after ensuring that we knew what to do etc.
We had to wait at least a hour before we could board onto the ferry for 10.15am departure. We finally arrived to Fraser Island by 11am and Daniel was still a driver. Once we touched the Fraser Island, we were driving onto the forest tracks which reminded us of Theford Forest.
Before we reached to the campsite, we had the itinerary for 3 days and the first thing it said that we were going to Lake McKenzie for a swim.
Once we arrived, the first thing we saw was a wild dingo and unfortunately for us, we couldn't take a picture as we didn't have the camera on us!
Lake Mckenzie was gorgeous with white sands and blue, clear sea. It was so lovely to swim. Lovely scenery to take in. After a hour or so, we returned back to the 4x4 for lunch. During those period, we spotted few dingos running around, in search for food. Each time we reached for the camera, they were gone!
We left by 1.30pm to drive on the beach for the campsite before the tides came in. Before we reached to the beach, we stopped briefly in the small town called Eurong for toliet/supplies. At the time, we spotted a big lizard - Goanna, that was next to gents toliet.
After driving on the beach for a long while, we finally reached to Dundaburra campsite but unfortunately for us, there was a notice saying that it was temporarily closed. It meant that our itinerary had to be thrown out of the window, looking for another available campsite. We had to do it quick as we didn't want to be stuck on the beach with the tide coming in! According to the itinerary, we had to set up our camp by 5pm, we didn't arrive to another campsite till after 5pm which was just in time before the tide hitted us!
We all setted up the tents successfully, cooked dinner and watched the tides coming in, the sun disppearing into the sea. It got dark by 7pm and unfortunately for us, it wasn't easy to see so we both decide to have an early night as we both were knackered due to the early start this morning. Also we got another early start tomorrow morning, leaving at 6am!
Daniel felt alot confident into driving and keen to drive for the rest of the adventure.
