Today's walk
6.8 miles from St Mawes past the castle and along the estuary to St Just of Roseland Church. Instead of heading inland we chose to return the same way along the waters edge for majority of the way.
DOG FRIENDLY
yes very, once on the path after walking through the village it was all off the lead to the picturesque village. Opportunity also for swim along the crystal clear waters of the river.
The Rising Sun has seating outside with shade and dog bowls. As a beautiful day I do not know if dogs allowed inside as we sat out.
I printed the walk off the SW Coastal Site which gives you a little history of the church as well as instructions.
There are several opportunities to get down to the waters edge with small shingle, rocky sides to walk on with lots of Little Rock pools.
We went down and made our way along the edge, some wider than others and with a bit of climbing fun we made our way a wider beach for lunch.
The water is just beautiful so clear with lots of different sea weed and anemones.
We continue on the grassy Banks with the spring flower path leading to a boat yard at St Just. Here you walk in front of the boat yard and find the path continues slightly hidden and it slowly climbs a little into a wooded area right into the churchyard. The path is laden with white bells and other spring flowers.
The church is very old much of which dates back to its dedication in 1261. It is on a site of a 5Th or 6Th century chapel presumably founded by St Just.
The church and grave yard is full of semi tropical plants and trees bought here by a 19Th century vicar. Splendid colours all round with a huge Monkey Puzzle tree as well as the tropical palms.
The church is open and has some nice stained glass windows.
Instead of following the SWC circular we head back the same way along the Banks and on the estuary beaches.
Stopping again for a cuppa and cake whilst I play in the rock pools.
Alfie and Karl take the opportunity to have snooze!
Returning admiring the beautiful houses along the river we have a couple of drinks outside The Rising Sun.
Today we make it back to the tent just before 5! Time to sit and chill after showers before we have our curry and more cakes!
Blue skies again virtually all day we have been blessed.
