Today we took the car out 4 miles to King Harry's Ferry which has been in operation for hundreds of years. It cuts off a 27mile trip around the River Fal
After crossing we arrive a minute later at Trelissick Hse Gardens and Woodland Walks.
Arriving around 1130 it was already busy with many people and their dogs.
At the car park information point there are friendly guides and can provide a printout of a map of the 2 way marked walks in the grounds. We took the longer which first takes you down a large grassed meadow towards the River Fal with beautiful views across the river and out to sea.
There is a small beach at the bottom where the dogs cooled down and we then continue aloof the waters edge through wooded areas. Information boards from the NT advise the conversation work they are carrying out on the newly restored paths and trees.
The walk takes you up,the creek and around to a Iron Fort where still visible are the ditches surrounding it. The middle now full of spring flowers.
We head down to Round Quay, sit a while admiring the views in the piece and quiet.
DOG FRIENDLY- yes all of the walk is off the lead. No high drops down to the creek from the Woodland either.
The return to the house you can take a short cut making the whole circular walk 4 miles.
We headed straight to the cafe in the grounds which has a large Terrence full of tables and the most drinking bowls for dogs I have ever seen! All clean and full of water! We enjoy our lunch in the sun And I then head into, the house whilst Russ returns to the meadow with the dogs to,sit and relax.
The house has its bottom rooms open only. Ida Copeland left it to,the NT in 1955 but sold the contents at auction. So the NT bought what they thought we would find interesting.
The emptyish rooms give the chance for local artists to depict the house story with their work. The house has only opened to,the public since 2014 when the latest people left.
It has many inhabitants who rented, owned the house with stories of bankruptcy and early deaths.
We then travel into Truro, take a walk around the small city and stock up at Tesco for our remaining holiday. I was planning on buying a SeaSalt Rain coat I have wanted for some time it typically I decide for the red and they don't have my size!
Truro is small, with lots of different shops it for some reason it wasn't quite what I expected from reading the Cornwall booklet I picked up.
Tea tonight was pork chops with a great LG sauce, fresh green beans, broccoli new spuds.
I did the washing up whilst Russ took himself to the SCP with Alf and Karl to see the sea and rabbits.
We then hit the puddings, comfort food, chocolate muffins with cream, chocolate mousse washed down with a lovely glass of Mcguigans Chardonnay.
Lovely sunset with a few campers left to enjoy the commanding views.
