We have just completed our epic 5 day trekking mission of the dientes de la Navarino extended circuit. This trek encompassed 6 alpine and sub alpine Passes to guide us through an amazing range of peaks, viewing from various angles. on a supposed trail which included snow, mud, large rocks, small rock, cow s*** we struggle to make ground averaging about 1km/hour.
At a total of 43km the trek was definitely a push but also great one to start with. Away from the major travelling route, the track was also fantastic in that we only saw 3 other people.
The scenery was something from a postcard! The steep "teeth" looking peaks were ominous and very humbling to walk through. Additionally, although we did not see much wildlife, we saw many rare species of birds including the eagle/vulture-like Andean condor. It was quite a spectacle with its 3m wingspan allowing it to seemingly float effortlessly in the sky.
I may have pretend Savannah was a guanaco or a mountain goat a couple times
The track was marked by larger and smaller piles of granite rocks. These often proved hard to find. We found ourselves momentarily lost a few times, however the last time was we mistakenly follow animal trails for about 3 hours in the general direction of the track. We missed the 2/38 last landmarks unfortunately, but met the road which intersected with the end of the track about 50m further up the road No problem though, 1min later a nice man offered us a lift into town which would have been a lumbered final 10km slog.
Stoaked to have completed the trail and now seems better, before it becomes more popular! Now we are hoping to make flight back to Punta Arenas as it is cheaper than the ferry to Ushuaia.
