March 13th-16th.
Sorry about the delay guys il try and remember everything as much as I can. So it was back in March and we finally decided to leave Koh Tao. It was a hard decision but we wanted to see the rest of Thailand so we finally booked the boat to Krabi. We were picked up from the hut at 7 pm and brought to the pier where we saw our lift for the night. No word of a lie i was expecting Captain Sparrow to jump out any time. Hilarious it was sooo old and manky it looked like a ship wreck rather than our transport. Anyway the boat wasnt leaving til 11 so we got to put our bags in. We walked in and honestly i thought i was at the bottom of the Titanic. We made our way up the stairs and saw our beds for the night, Ha they were mats all cramped into each other we were actually sleeping on top on each other.. We went for a walk around and then boarded the ship. The beds were full of bugs and they were manky. Thank god it wasnt busy because at least we had space. Apart from the annoying child playing his game boy all night and a few drunken eejits it was peaceful.. but FAR from enjoyable. If i went back id def have to fly everywhere. We arrived at Chumpton at 5am. Then came the scariest experience of my trip. I went to walk out the way i came on..NO NO that would be too easy. we basically had to hop off the back of the ship.. 4 bags in hand. along the tiniest plank i have ever seen with nothing to hold on to.. OMG talk about facing my fears anyway after a few screams and a mini panic attack we made it across. We eventually got on the road in a packed to capacity mini bus and went on our merry way. Neither of us realised how far away we were and eventually at 12 pm the next day we arrived at our hotel... pissed off to say the least!!! We stayed at Thakis Grand Home, nothing too grand about it but it did us fine and the woman in the place was lovely so we were happy out. We slept the whole day and then went for a walk into Krabi itself. We were about 15 min walk and well Krabi wasnt very nice. There were no tourists and all locals. No place to eat and nothing to see.. We kind of ran out of the place. Everyone goes to Ao Nang the local beach. The next day we walked around the town and didnt do much, we were trying to recover from Koh Tao so didnt put any strain on ourselves. The next day we decided to go into Ao Nang and see what the fuss was about. We got a tuk tuk bus in which was about 20 mins away and we were so impressed with the beach. The beach was sooo beautiful and even though it was busy it was still gorgeous. The water was so cool and after the roasting hot water of Koh Tao so it was a lovely change to actually be refreshed. All i wanted to do when i went to thailand was going Elephant trekking. For someone who absolutely hates animals i have always had a slight obsession with elephants so obviously when i had a chance i wasnt going to miss out on it. Got a really good deal on it so i left Hannah at the beach and was picked up at our hotel. Have to admit i was s***ting it but i said i had to do it. Hopped into the car with 2 strange men and off i trotted to the elephant place. I arrived there and sometimes i forget about my fear of heights til its too late and then panic. They gave me water and then escorted me up these steps and told me to hop on.. I nearly lost my life, they made me sit in the middle of the elephant. There were loads of elephants all over the place all tied up. it was pretty horrible but i liked my guy. Of course me not being able to do things by halves had to get the biggest Elephant for my trek. We headed off me holding on for dear life to the piece of STRING holding me on the elephant, I had a minder with me, a shabby looking old man with a spear.. We headed off down the road..yes im serious.. we walked down the main road me and the Elephant and people were beeping.. HELLO!!!??? dont bloody beep!!Anyway we then headed off on our trek. it was actually the most amazing experience of my life. Of course the first ten minutes were a blank because i was so scared but then i started having trust in the Elephant and we became firm friends. All of a sudden the man jumped off the elephant and while laughing started saying "bye bye" and waving while walking away.. I thought OH s***!! it was me and Nelly.. we got off to a shaky start but after a while we were going over rocks and under trees every so often he wud stop for something to eat and then off he would go again. We got into a great routine. The man with us kept roaring at him but the Elephant wasnt having any of it. I was amazed by how intelligent they are. I mean i know they probably go on the same trek so many times a day but i really was mesmorised by the whole experience. We eventually headed back and I was on cloud 9!! I got to feed them and everything. Headed back to the Hostel and burned Hannahs ear off i was on such a high. Pity we didnt have a camera would have loved to have gotten a few photos. That night we went for a Pizza and headed to bed early. We were heading to Phi Phi the next morning. Krabi was ok I wouldnt be in a hurry to go back but if i was going back id be staying on Ao Nang for def. But il always remember it as the place I went Elephant trekking :)
