Apologies for lack of updates - been really lazy!
It seemed to take AGES to get from Krabi to Koh Samui! It started off with a longtail boat - which we had to meet out at sea carrying our bags and rolling up our shorts so not to get too wet in the thigh high water. We spent a few hours in Krabi town, not very attractive but really cheap. Later on after a few more bus rides we jumped on the night boat. About thirty thin and small mattresses lined up against each other were our beds for the night. Before we set sail we had a visit from a bat! All the travellers freaked whereas the few Thais on the boat barely battered an eyelid.
It was still dark when we arrived in Koh Samui at 5am - possibly our earliest morning to date! We stayed in the north on Big Buddha beach as it was near the pier needed to get to the full moon party a few days later. Walking with heavy bags after a bad nights sleep trying to find a room wasnt exactly fun. I'd spotted a sign saying 275B (really cheap) so went in search of the rooms. We trekked down a dirt track which runned adjacent to the airport and arrived. We managed to translate the Thai man who was saying the advertised price was 'short stay'. We stopped a night anyway as were in desperate need of sleep! The room with mirrored ceilings and green and red lights outside was very seedy! Managed to move the following night however planes were flying directly above, almost sounding as if they could take the roof off!
We did a bit of exploring and went to see the Big Buddha and a Thai temple we spotted in the distance. We arrived and witnessed all the locals praying in their white clothing and chanting with monks. Went to a local market in search of fruit but the smell was rancid so decided against that!
Up until Koh Samui have been ok(ish) with all the bugs, but had closed the curtain in our room to wake the BIGGEST spider I've ever seen! I screamed and jumped! Si was banging about trying to get it to move away from the door so I could get out. Then removed all bags and clothes from room before Si attempted and successfully killed it! It was truely horrible! You could see its eyes and furry bits on its massive legs. It was about the size of Simons hand! Would not have coped without him!!
Koh Samui, well the area we stayed in, wasn't the nicest. Spent the few days lazing by the pool and drinking good old Chang before heading to Koh Phangan
