The difference between Malaysia and Singapore when crossing the border was very noticable. All the expensive cars were sparkling clean!! We were dropped off at the bus station quite late so walked to the hostel and checked in. We stayed in a dorm to keep it cheap!
The next day we caught the MRT tot he Botanical Gardens. The heat was pretty intense and we were both horribly clammy. We walked around and saw terepins in the lakes and the rainforest area with loads of strange looking trees. We spotted some christmas decorations being put up which seem strange as the sun was shining! Although we had planned to spend a full day at the Botanical Gardens it had rained the night before so we the grass was still a bit damp. Instead we cauight the MRT to town and looked around an area called Clarke Quay. The clean and fairly modern area of pubs and clubs sat beside the river. We spotted a hooters - although Si was very disappointed by the lack of large boobs! We carried on downt eh river and saw Raffles statue, cricket and rugby putches, marina bay, merlion pak and the buisness district. I loved just sitting and watching all the buisness people in their gorgeous clothes rade around. We were pretty drained after all the walking so headed back to the hostel.
After some grub and rest we went back to Clarke Quay for the evening with some friends we had made. There was one bar called Clinic where you sat in chairs and were served alcohol in syringes or drips! The drinks in the area were all really expensive so we made out way to Chinatown. For some unknown reason one our friends suggested buying random kebab sticks. Strangley, I was keen on the idea - although Simon wasn't. We ordered chicken heads, chicken hearts, pig kidney and sheep intestine. They were all coated in a yummy bbq flavouring. The heart was by far my favourite. The intestine was just like gristle and the head didnt have much meat. There was also one random eye that had been left so I decided to eat that too!
On one of our days in Sinapore we took a scooter tour round the city. Hye, the owner of the Inn Crowd backpackers hostel did a free guided tour on scooters costing 150 pounds. We whizzed about and saw the city. I got caught in a drain once or twice and buckled! Hye also took us for some satay sticks which were really nice. He recommended a grass jelly drink to try but not many people enjoyed it. The following day we went on Hyes boat to a desserted beach. We chilled in the sea and on rubber rings for the day.
The night before we let Singapore there was a huge storm. The sky was filled with fork lightening. Later on we spoke to a guyy in our room who said he witnessed the thunder and lightening strike simultaneously and smash a shop window! Thankfully the weather was much better when we flew to Oz!!
