Our first stop while exploring the Catlins region of New Zealand was at Nugget Point, were we pulled into see one of many south New Zealands Light Houses. The walk to the light house was on an incline and beside a steep drop, which fell a few hundred feet into where the sort line was. Simon heard some weird noises coming from the shore line, which we later discovered to be fur seals talking to one and another. The views as we walked were totally stunning in all directions. We were able to see an panoramic view of the shore line. It was probably the former shore line that has been eroded over time. It was definitely a site to see, the waves crashing against the rocks with supreme strength.

Further along the coast we stopped at another natural wonder called Jacks Blowholes. We parked up on the beach at Jacks Bays and made the scenic walk along the coast to the blowholes, which took about 40 minutes. Although we got to see the sea crashing through the blow holes, the view was a little hindered by the natural vegetation that was a little over grown. So we couldn't really see the true power of the blow holes (but would definitely like to go back and see them during a storm, to see how far the water would rise through them on a stormy day).

Once leaving the blow holes we drove further around the coast stopping off at a few look outs where we viewed many of the Catlins beaches. That night we camped at Purakanui beach. We went for a stroll along the beach to view the stars as it was a extremely clear night. The next morning we left to explore the inland region of the Catlins and some of it many waterfalls.

That evening at low tide we went to check out Cathedral Caves as we had heard from any travelers that it was well worth the trip. While at the caves we spent an hour or so exploring and trying to get as many cool photos as possible before the tide came back because at high tide the caves become inaccessible.

On our last night in the Catlins Si thought it would be a good idea to light a fire on the beach as he'd seen other people do it the night before. After collecting fire would for nearly an hour, Si couldn't light the fire as all the wood was to damp so he wasn't best pleased about.

On our last day in the Catlins me and Si checked out a few more beaches along the coast, and had a chilled out day before heading to Te Anau.
