Simon & Kim's Global Adventure
We arrived in Lake Wanaka town early afternoon and parked up by the lake. In comparison to other lakes we have seen it wasn't anything special. Whilst enjoying our picnic we watched crazy people off the tourist bus jump off into the cold water lake. We took a walk around town then wandered down the deserted pier. Swimming below us were huge trouts and eels.
Late afternoon we went to the cinema as we heard it was an experience. It was a small place with only one screening room so the choice of what to watch was limited. We ended up watching Its Complicated. Inside the cinema were several comfy sofas and a yellow car hat had been saved from the scrapheap and was fitted with comfy seats. During the film there was a short interval where we could munch on fresh, still warm cookies.
We only stayed one night and camped at a DOC site. The next day we went to puzzle world. We first went into the maze where we chose the difficult challenge. We had to find our way to each corner in order. It took us forever to get to the closest yellow corner but we sped up after that. We completed it in forty five minutes - much longer and we would have probably given up!
After the maze we went into the puzzle rooms. The first was a hall of following faces. It was really strange. The faces were all concave yet they appeared to be convex and as you walked around the room they seemed to follow us yet they didn't move. The next room was an optical illusion room. When I stood in the opposite corner to Simon I looked either twice as small or twice as tall It was an awesome illusion used in the Lord Of The Rings.
The last room was mind-boggling. We entered it and the entire room was at a slant yet the decor made it look like it was perfectly straight and we were all leaning. Everything looked really odd. There was water that appeared to flow upwards and a snooker ball that ran directly into a pocket despite the fact the table looked completely level.
After playing with a few puzzles we went outside and took a few silly photos near the leaning tower of Wanaka. Shortly after we began our drive to Fran Josef.
