We have spent the last ten days travelling through Vietnam. Hanoi was ace, we really enjoyed it we visted Ho Chi Minhs mausoleum and the gardens for his house which were beautiful, the one pillar pagoda and the Temple of Literature.
We then got another overnight sleeper to Hue and cycled to the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc and then off to a boat for a trip down the perfume river. Cycling was an experience...
Our next stop was Hoi An which was beautiful, we went on a walking tour around the old streets and visted one of the oldest houses in Hoi An. We also did some shopping.
Nha Trang was our next stop, we did a boat trip around the islands and did some snorkelling and had a seafood lunch. Jim and Pat spent hours jumping off the the top of the boat, it kept them amused...We also hired motorbikes and drivers to take us to the Nagor Cham Tower and the Thap Ba Hot springs and mud baths. The mud bath was great.
Our last stop was Saigon. Jess, Jo, Pat and ourselves decided to organise our own day trip and took a local boat down the Saigon river and canals to see the local life. We definitely got a taste of what life is like in Saigon. The canal got more and more smelly as we went down it to the point where methane gas was bubbling up through it...people were actually washing and fishing in it....which we couldn't believe. We visited some markets and hired some Cyclos to take us back to the hotel, they completely ripped us off and dropped us an hour and a half from the hotel...we were pretty tired when we got back to the hotel.
We also visited the Cu Chi tunnels which were used during the war by the Viet Com. Jim had a crawl through some of them.
We head off to Hong Kong tomorrow....
