Jim and Sim's World Adventure
Day 17/18 of the Trek America Tour...We left Vancouver yesterday and got the ferry to Vancouver Island and then drove to Tofino which is on the West of the Island.
Our campsite is on a beach, and the beach is fab. Today we went whale watching. We all had to put on red boiler suits and yellow rain coats and get on a boat - well we say a boat but it was a rubber ring with seats in it..
After about two minutes we saw a bald eagle and then sailed on to see some sea lions. We then spent about 30 minutes watching the grey whales feeding on the reef. You could see their blow holes and then they would arch their backs out of the water, one of them even gave us a wave with its tail.
We then sailed onto natural springs cove and took a 30 minute boardwalk to the springs. They flowed down to a hot waterfall and then through the rocks to the sea forming hot pools on the way that you can sit in. Its just so hard to describe - but absolutley amazing...it was raining as well which made it even better, and if you sat in the bottom pool, when the waves crashed in you got some cold water into the pool.
After dinner we went to a nearby lodge with Peter and Ann and had some red wine. The view over the sea was lovely and the company and the wine were brilliant. One of our favourite nights on this trek.
