We were somewhat reluctant to leave Champagne Castle this morning. The place was quite luxurious. It was almost like we had been transported back to Africa of the 20's. They announced dinner time by someone going around sounding chimes. All the meals were buffet style but my goodness, what a choice! For dinner last night, we roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and of course so many different kinds of dessert. After we vacated our room, we went down the road to a place that displayed the raptors of South Africa. They put on an hour long show and fly a number of birds including Falcons, Hawks, Eagles and Owls. They throw pieces of "pick and pay" chicken into the air and the birds catch them. This also attracts wild Kites which also grab the chicken. They sent off a black eagle and a peregrine falcon which didn't come back. Apparently this is quite normal and they eventually do come back. After the show, we started off for Giants Castle which was about 3 hours away over the N3 highway and then over a road that I can only describe as a series of potholes with a bit of road between them. We arrived about 2:15pm and relaxed until dinner time. The place is quite spectacular with amazing views of the Drakensberg mountains. We bought some firewood as the last 2 days have been quite cool. We had dinner at the restaurant here and then came back to our chalet, made a cozy fire, read for a while and then lights out.
