Breakfast at 8:30am is probably the latest we have had breakfast since arriving in South Africa. Our hosts, Chris and Meg are very gracious. Chris is a certified guide and will be guiding some people at Giants Castle at the same time we are there tomorrow and the next day. We had quite an interesting discussion the night before as his father was in Tobruk during WW2 so he was in North Africa at the same time as my dad. We started our journey to the resort we are staying tonight by going the wrong way when we left the B&B but soon got ourselves on the right road and had a 3 hour drive to the area we are staying tonight. Lots of beautiful scenery on the way. The resort is called Champagne Castle and has some totally awesome views. I will post some pics showing the view. Each room has a sign saying keep your doors and windows locked so the baboons and monkeys don't get in. We had to wait an hour for our room so we went for lunch which was a buffet lunch - very delicious with loads of choices for dessert. Our room is very comfortable- luxurious even. In 20 minutes, we will drive to the Drakensberg Boys School to hear their famous choir. I will continue this when we get back. Back now from the choir concert. The first half was composed of classic pieces which were good but seemed to lack enthusiasm. The second half, however, was amazing! The choir did a series of South African folk songs with a lot of dancing. Two stood out for me. They turned off the lights and did a birds in the jungle soundtrack with a thunderstorm in the middle. It was quite amazing! The second highlight for me was the gum boot song with dancing. It is definitely a song only young people can do! The energy of those young lads was incredible! In all, it was a 2 hour performance. I think we may have been the only English speaking people in the audience. That has been the norm. It seems the Europeans are the most active of travellers. Haven't even run into any Americans and only a couple of Australians. When we were milling around after the concert, the young lads started taking down all the different country flags that were flying. We were very happy to see the Canadian flag. I wondered if they put up flags in honour of audience members. They knew we were from Canada.

Joanne Leatherdale The scenery is stunning. What a gorgeous corner of the world! I hope you bought a CD from the choir concert although their energy has to be witnessed. A beautiful morning here. I hiked up Mt. Baldy in Sorrento yesterday. The snow is showing on the mountains and frosts at night.
