the cook islands, such a cool place to visit. it is only a small island with two roads - one goes round the outside, and one goes round the inside. to get between the roads you have to go off road, and through some peoples gardens. when we got off the plane there was a small band playing and singing a song, whilst they were giving out flowers things to go round your head! at the moment only one plane a week lands in Rarotonga, and so a lot of locals come out to see the planes landing and taking off. the airport was odd most of it is outside, with chickens running round!
Getting around to explore the island better, pete decided to get a moped we had paid for it and were about to leave when the lady told us that we would have to stop by the police station and get a bike license! ok so off we went. the police station car park was full of mopeds, we went in and they told us that to get a license you have to sit a test which consists of driving around the block. Pete just showed them his AMCA motocross license and they were happy with that, took his picture and issued him a cook islands licence. we were away! we actually met a girl that failed the bike test - because she took a wrong turn! (but passed on 2nd time)
Accomodation we stayed at the rarotonga backpackers (beachside) real nice setting. the owners were really nice and the room was ok just a bed and a fan but clean. it was cool that you could go outside and pick fresh coconuts, the hostel had a big spike in the garden for opening them. pete had to do them i was useless!
Dress code I dont know if it was just when we went, but all the locals wear the same shirts (men and women) loose fitting with big flowers on, i noticed they came in blue, pink and yellow! maybe they had a huge sale on? makes it really hard to distinguish between men and women!
we we really lucky with the weather we had one dull day, but the sun came out. I had just started reading a book called 'The Know' by Martina Cole and i couldn't put it down. I sat by the pool reading all afternoon, and my legs got sunburnt real bad! Our hostel had a bbq that night, it was a good laff the people there were real nice, and some of them we have kept in touch with. Food was great and beer was cold x
