oh my god it is hot here. arrived at the airport where the guest house was arranging for us to be collected, but no one was there to meet us! typical. we waited and waited all the while people are trying to sell us accomodation and taxis, so we were getting fed up. then a lady from the travel agent come up to us and asked if she could help, i wasn't listening but pete went with her to the office and she got on the phone. she asked pete for our names, then she rang someone in mumbo jumbo said our names, and spelt them out then got off the phone and said that the people to pick us up were in the airport waiting for us? we hadn't seen them, then from round the corner pops out this women with a tatty piece of paper with our names on. i thought this to be well strange, but it was 8pm and dark and with no other option we went with the lady who took us to a car, where a guy was driving. i held on to pete for dear life cos i thought this mite be it. The guy had to stop for fuel, all the shops had bars on the fronts of them like jail and you couldn't go in, you had to see the guy through the window. this was real creepy. Everything was alright in the end thou, they took us to our hotel. thank god! accomodation we stayed at the motel guest house, which was owned by apoo! (well he looked just like apoo from the simpsons) real nice guy who couldn't do enough for us.
We booked a tour to go to the islands, we booked for 5 nights staying at 2 islands. I couldn't wait, as there was not much to do in Fiji mainland and the beach wasn't very nice. we got picked up and taken to the big boat and we were away. The first island we went to was Kuata, the big boat stopped in the middle of the ocean and the little speed boat came from the island to collect us.
Accomodation we got showed to our 'Bure' and oh my god what a shack! I could have built better with lego. it was just put together with plywood with loads of gaps in it. inside the door (with no lock) was just a really small matress on a wooden stand. the matress with damp with curry smelling sweat. The bathroom was just a toilet and a pipe that had cold water! No aircon or fan and lights went out at 9:30. OK i wasn't expecting a palace but it wasn't a cheap tour! we had booked with awesum adventures Fiji, and cost $700 fiji dollars each (not sure what that is in ponds) but it was obvious after seeing how the workers lived on the island that they didn't see much of the money, which is sad.
Food The food was disgustng, and i can normally eat anything! so we were stuck on this island with NO shop, having to eat what they cooked us. The only thing they sold in "their shop" was Crunchies (which i ended up living on).
Fishing we went evening fishing, there were 6 of us sat in this little boat (which was full of fish guts) the sea was really rough and we started goin up and down, up and down. We had just had food Lamb hotdogs with sweet roll??? and i was feeling sick. they were chucking bait at us and i had to stick sardines on my hook, the sun was setting and then the girl next to me caught something. she started pulling it in, but got scared at the last minute, it looked big and so the Fiji guy leant over and pulled it up for her, and it hit me straight in the face!! Eugh!! Then i caught my own fish a massive Baracuda, i was well chuffed!!
Pete also caught a couple of fish (lots)!!!!
