Bus driver this morning sounded like an amateur disc jockey - it was hilarious!! 130km to Greymouth - about 6 hours - groan. After this bus, I've still got about 4 bus journeys to go!! I already think I never want to travel on another bus again, so thank god I'm travelling around the East Coast of Oz by train!
Saw the Pancake Rocks on the way to Greymouth which was really cool. The rocks aren't round like pancakes (as one girl obviously thought as I heard her say it as as she was walking round) but are stacked up like pancakes and you can clearly see each layer. Geologists don't know how they got formed like that, and they're slowly getting eroded as time goes by.
Steve - our bus driver - is quite a character and at least I've had entertaining bus drivers to keep me amused on the long journeys! He kept on saying that he's got no problem leaving people behind, even if they're running after the bus!! I wasn't sure if he was joking or not, so I made sure I got on the bus a few minutes ahead of when he said he would leave! He said one guy was sitting in the coffee shop as he got on the bus to start up the engine, and he just waved at him as he drove off! Apparently the guy called the bus company and asked why he just zoomed on by him as well! He said that he hadn't got on the bus on time, so he wasn't going to wait! Oh well, I guess it's your own fault if you don't get on the bus on time, but I didn't expect them to leave without you!!
Arrived in Greymouth in the afternoon and got put in the pigs room in Noah's Ark backpackers. I'm the first one in it - yay - and had decided just to chill out here, get some washing done and all that sort of thing. Met a nice lady called Gaynor, who was doing the exact same thing! She was here yesterday, and said there's not much to do in Greymouth so chilling out is the order of the day! Noah's Ark is pretty laid back and there is a cute kitty called Jess here, and a nice fluffy labrador retriever (I think) called Bez. Jess took a liking to one of my room mates pillows and basically made her bed there for the best part of the evening before she got kicked out at about 9:30pm!
Basically didn't do much in Greymouth at all, and the hostel was a nice place to hang out in and just get some R&R. I thought that as I'd be getting on another bus tomorrow, and doing my half day walk up the Glacier in Fox Glacier on Thursday, then it was probably a good idea to just chill. Get to have a bit of a lie in tomorrow as well, and have a free morning as my bus isn't until the afternoon. So, I could have a walk around Greymouth tomorrow morning if I so wish, or I might just stick myself to my netbook!! :D Got lots of photos to download, blog to update, etc.
