Spent a lot of money on postage again this morning! Groan. Oh well, I have faith in the New Zealand postal system in any case seeing as my other two parcels have already reached home. My sister says she'll open them up as I sent pressies for her and my Dad in one of them, so hopefully they're still intact!
Sun is still shining in Christchurch too, though the wind makes it a little cooler here. Taxi'd myself to Dorset House as well, and it looks really, really nice. Quite plush and cosy looking. Vagabonds wasn't at all plush, but was homely which was nice. Oh, they also made a couple of loaves of fresh bread for the guests too, which was really nice! Yesterday's was wholemeal, and apple. Yum. Today's was chocolate and coconut, and a wholemeal one too. No need to go and find breakfast then - yay!
Got my bus to Kaikoura, which is only 2.5 hours away from Christchurch. However, I got on the oldest and most rickety bus I've seen in the whole of my New Zealand adventure!! The seats are a wierd pinky colour and a sort of velour fabric. 70s styleee anyone? The carpet on the floor is fraying so much that there's hardly any left, and I'm surprised the bus is still roadworthy as it's shaking a fair bit as we go along the road!! I wonder if the one going back to Christchurch on Wednesday is going to be the same!! It's called the Naked bus, so they really mean it!! Hahahahahhaahhhaha!
When I got to Kaikoura, it was lovely and sunny, but that all changed a little while ago as the rain started pouring. I was really hoping that the weather would be good, and so now I'm sitting here hoping that the rain will pour itself out overnight and so be good for tomorrow. From past experience, this isn't going to happen, is it? :(
Oh well, I guess there are other things I can do if it rains....like go back to bed and sleep all day! I don't want to walk around in the rain and there isn't even anything on at the local cinema that I want to watch.
The hostel is ok, though dusting obviously isn't the owners strong points as there are cobwebs all over the place! I don't like dusting either, but you'd expect some sort of standard when you're paying for accommodation! This is also the first place where I've stayed that has charged me for bed linen!! $2 isn't that much for a sheet and duvet, but gees! Good thing I'm staying 2 nights so I can make the most of it! Flippin' heck, I sound like such a scroogebag!! This is obviously what happens when you go travelling (and I'm unemployed. I probably wouldn't care as much if I had a job to come home to!), you become a penny pincher extraordinaire!
I met my dorm mates and one lady went whale watching today and said it was great. They saw a few whales, some dolphins, and some birds, so that's cool. Why didn't I come to Kaikoura earlier????? Gaaaaaah!!
I just hope that the weather does cheer up as there isn't that much else to do here! The jewellery stand guy at the market suggested a surfing lesson, so perhaps I can find out about that too? I've should really do something else with myself other than sleep, shouldn't I? There is also a night time walk that shows you the stars and night time sky of the sourthern hemisphere, which could be quite cool, so I'll definitely enquire about that.
