Shona & Nikki's big trip!
So, our last night in Playa del Carmen was good. The 4 of us girls went to a cool beach-bar that had big swings around the bar and a platform dance floor on the beach - which of course we were the first to jump on! It did eventually fill up though and I danced alot.
The next day we all caught a bus to Cancun which we hurried out of and caught a boat to the Isla de Mujares (the Island of Women!) where we have been ever since.
Staying in a really cool hostel. It has the nicest dorm room we've stayed in so far, where us 4 girls have the top beds which is funny, feel like we're on school trip.
There is a big communal space with restaurant (food a bit minging mind you but v.cheap), lively bar which sometimes has live music or bbq's, a little garden with hammocks and pooltable and we get a free continental breakfast (which actually turned out just to be stale toast and jam but hey). Have spent most of the time here beaching it and partying. Funny 'cos we keep bumping into the same people from other places we've visited - most of them staying in our hostel, one in our room actually. Must be because we're all on the same gringo- trail.
There are quite alot of English people but we've also met loads of Israelies, which I did not expect, apparently its because alot of them have just got out of the army which has a base nearby.
Watched the horrible England game the other day, so unfair!!!! Then watched most of the France game -yay! (at least one of my teams won - good to have back-up!) until the girls suddenly turned up in a golf-cart to pick us up! We did a tour of the island on it - really fun (although Elly's driving was a bit scary at times!).
Today we rented bikes to explore the island some more. Seemed a good idea at the time. Hmmm. Really not. It was waaaay too hot, was not fun at all. Felt like we was going to collapse from heat exhaustion on several occasions, evertime I started to enjoy it we would turn a corner and find ourselves at the bottom of a hill and wanting to cry. We did stop at a little turtle farm place though, where they are trying to protect the endangered turtles by keeping the eggs protected then looking after them for their first year. They are sooo cute!! Then we had to cycle back. Ugh.
Anyway, it is unbearably hot now so no more streneous activities for us!!!! The beach will do just fine. In process of planning our trip to Cuba.
