Shona & Nikki's big trip!
Had a nice few days in Tulum. On Saturday we went on a trip to the cenotes (lime-stone caverns filled with water). We had to wear wetsuits (not v.flattering I can tell you!) then travel to the caves on this crazy 'jungle-mobile' where you STAND in the back and ride through the jungle along a dirt-track, which was fun! I even saw a monkey! We then climbed down to the cenotes, which was amazing. We snorkled through the clear (and v.cold!) fresh-water, it was like a whole under-water world full of icicle shaped limestone, really pretty. The water was so clear it felt as though you were flying though these beautiful caves, really surreal experience. The second one we went into (although they are all linked somehow - to form the biggest underwater cave system in the world) was a really tight fit, not for the claustrophobic! At some points you couldnt lift your head out of the water because you would hit it on the ceiling of the cave! Quite scary!
On Saturday night we went out to celebrate Elly's birthday(one of the girls we're sharing with) with some American guys who were cycling their way through Central America (crazy!). We went for a nice pizza, then drinks at ours, then bar, then a cheesy-as-hell night-club.
On Monday the four of us caught a bus to Playa del Carmen. We are sharing a room again, which makes things alot cheaper - the more the merrier!
Since then I've been quite ill with some sort of horrible, achy-body, throat-infection bug thing which totally knocked me side-ways for 2 days, and Nikki has had a cold (probably all caused by the a/c - just as well we cant afford it much!), so have spent alot of time in bed since we've been here, luckily we have a TV! Have now started taking anti-biotics so am on the mend. Actually made it to the beach today, which is nice enough but very busy.
Playa del Carmen is really touristy so we think we'll be leaving tommorrow. Hopefully try out the night-life tonight (if Im up to it) and head-off in the morning - destination unknown!
