Zvi Josef's Travels
Woke up after an almost sleepless night to yet another hot hot hot day in Hanoi.
Had breakfast at the Vietnamese restaurant, which was good, rested a bit in the room and took a taxi to visit the infamous prison in Hanoi. It was very gloomy, as can be expected.
We then continued to visit the Ho Chi Minh mosoleum (only from outside), his previous houses and the botanical gardens. We also took a glimpse of HCM's museum (from the outside).
Since it was SO hot, we decided to take what turned out to be an illegal taxi back to the hotel. He took almost double a regular taxi (5 USD insctead of 3), but it was rather funny.
We then walked and saw the Opera building (no shows, so we could not enter), the Hilton hotel and returned to the hotel for a well deserved shower (we were SOAKING) and some afternoon treats.
We then continued to a tour in the hotel's historic wing, including a newly discovered bomb shelter. After the tour, we were handed cold towels and some lemongrass mint drinks. That was such a nice touch, as the heat was unbareable.
After a small pre dinner cocktails and food, we took a taxi to the other side of town to see West Lake, which was rather boring, but we got to visit the Sofitel Plaza there, which was rather nice. :) Wehn we were returning, there were tiny dropletts of rain in the air.
Upon coming back, we were informed that our booking of the Halong Bay tour in 2 days is not going to be fulfilled, as a big summer storm was hitting this area and the boats are all grounded. :(
That's bad, because we're going to Halong Bay tomorow and we'll have nothing to do there other than enjoy the hotel's pool. We cannot cancel the hotel, as it was a prepaid rate, but we cannot also cancel the car service for 3 days... . Oh well, we managed to get a late checkout, so we'd be heading to Halong Bay (3 hours limo ride) only at 16:00 tomorrow.
Then we went to have a French dinner, which was ok (not great).
In the middle of dinner, all hell broke loos and a turrential rain started. It was INSANE! Thankfully we were inside the restaurant. :)))
Ami lost his sunglasses today, so tomorrow morning, we're hoping to find a nice place to buy him a new pair.
All in all - another eventful day! :)
G'night!!! :)
