2nd day at the Island I figured I'd love to see some more of what the Island had to offer thus rented a scooter at the hotel. But no more than 15 mins into my big adventure and I was already lost turning in the wrong direction at an inter section.
I happily scootered away on to a dirt road, felt pretty cool taking it off road style... I drove for about 45 min and saw some beautiful hill sides, goats running around, cattle grassing, the sound of the ocean and small fishermen boats trawling away. Drove through a small village, 5 huts or so, and at some point ended up at a pier with nowhere else to go. The fishermen at the end of the pier looked at me with an expression I could not define, amazement of me being there or simply just looking kinda saying 'hello' and went about their business separating the fishnets.
I took some photos and rather liked the idea of not knowing where I was until I felt the little green hungry monster (my stomach). Anyone who knows me well knows that it's not a good sign when the hungry monster shows it's ugly face. I am not a nice person when I am hungry. Those snickers commercials (at least shown in Danish tv) are aimed directly at me..with that little green gremlings like thing in the armchair not helping out with anything until he gets a snickers because he is hungry... I am not myself when I am hungry!
Well, fortunately I had some snacks in my bag and could salvage any disaster but not for long.
I hopped onto the scooter and prepared myself for another 45 min back on the dirt road and reminded myself that I saw some small shops somewhere along the road.
Meanwhile I enjoyed the scenery of green hills, kids waiving and screaming 'HELLO' like they had never seen an european before, older men nodding their head at me when passing by (either they were nodding at me or thinking 'what in the world...' - I prefer thinking they were nodding), rubber trees and more cattle grassing alongside the road.
I finally came to the place where I took the wrong turn and 5 mins later I pulled into the side at a little shop and bought some more snacks and sodas. I am still amazed of how cheap some of the shops were; 2 cans of sprite = 30 THB ~ 6 DKr.
I would have liked to have proceeded my adventure but a thunderstorm was on it's way so I went a little further down the road and found the correct way to use for getting to the north of the Island, on cemented road. That adventure had to wait until tomorrow!

Camilla Det er altid spændende at blive væk, så længe man kan finde vejen tilbage igen ;-) Heldigvis er næsten altid nogen man kan spørge (eller bruge lidt tegnsprogsagtig pege teknik)
