Day 6 and 7
(Michelle)
Yesterday we went to explore the city and the area local to our guest house. There are loads of tour companies around offering different activities so we used these to decide what we were going to do for the rest of our week here. We had a late lunch at the restaurant we went to last night because it was so nice and cheap too! Then we booked a cooking class and a day trip to an elephant centre. In the evening we sampled Chiang Mai's street food and nightlife and found it to be much more accessible than in Bangkok (more English signs). Had an awesome oreo cheesecake too at a place just outside Trigong (was craving a pudding too much to deny myself). We also spotted a Boots, Starbucks and McDonald's so England is never too far away.
Today we had to get up early for our cookery class at Asia scenic cookery school (cost ~£15) as they were picking us up at quarter to 9. After we met up with the class teacher Bai, and rest of our group, we were taken to the local market to sample some local thai ingredients. It was very interesting and we got to try some hot hot hot spices, noodles, coconut and different types of rice. We then headed back to the school where we were introduced to some herbs from the garden (also got to try them) and chose the meals that we wanted to cook. We got to pick 7 dishes/courses. We had great fun making the meals and after each one we got to eat them, yum! Me and Jamie made different dishes to each other and so got to try even more Thai food. My favourites were the Spring rolls and Penang chicken curry, and Jamie enjoyed his Thai Red curry. We really enjoyed the day, met some nice people and even got a little cookbook to take home with us (so we can cook for you all when we get back home ). Going to Baan Chang Elephant Park tomorrow - were really excited!!!
Lots of love xxxxx
