Days 23, 24, 25, and 26
On our first full day in Ko Samui we had a nice long lie in as we were knackerd from travelling the day before. We decided to make full use of the swimming pool, which to our surprise was heated, and it made a nice change to swimming in the sea. As Samui was our final destination in Thailand we wanted to maximise our time sunbathing and lazying around! That night we took the free shuttle service to the nearest beach resort where there were plenty of bars and restaurants. Lamai beach was different to some of the other tourist resorts we have been to as it still had some of its old character with narrow long winding streets. However it still had its fair share of lap dancing bars with sleazy old men hanging around outside, and we even saw a book titled 'So many women so little time- how to make the most of your trip to Thailand' !
As we had enjoyed just relaxing by the pool we decided to do exactly the same the next day. We also discovered we could play pool for free a few steps from the swimming pool. Jamie was very jammy and won all but one game and I did not like this so kept making him play more untill I won. We went out early so that we could get back for Jamie to watch Liverpool, but I managed to persuade him to buy me an icecream sundae first!
The next day we decided to go and see what the beach was like, but when we got there the waves were much bigger than any we had seen before in Thailand. We walked along the beachfront and had a nice lunch before heading back. In the evening we decided to try the Ko Samui street food at a small night market and it was some of the best we had eaten. Jamie though the pork ribs were outstanding and a bargain at just over a pound for a full rack. I once again headed for an icecream sundae (yes, I have a problem, but they were good!).
Our final day in Samui was also Valentine's day, awww! Jamie had made me a virtual card to surprise me in the morning (he's a romantic at heart). We spent another day by the pool playing pool, predictable I know, but it was our last opportunity to relax before we head to more cities! For the second part of my Valentines treat I was told I could have whatever I wanted to eat that night (this was a speacial treat for me as Jamie has been very tight with our budget so far!). Naturally I decided to have the most expensive imported Australian fillet steak on the menu, and to have yet another ice cream sundae (the girls in the shop knew I was coming before I walked through the door!) When we got back I had the scare of my life when a giant spider ran over my feet in the bathroom (cue the screaming), and so ensued a battle between man and beast with Jamie emerging the victor half an hour later. I slept terribly that night as a result thus so did Jamie
Had a great time in Ko Samui but definately wasn't looking forward to the journey to Cambodia!
