I met English Vicky on the Ticabus that morning and we both took the shuttle from Guatemala City to Antigua together - well worth the $10USD for the convenience.
Arriving in Antigua we wandered around getting lost for a bit before finally believing the locals directions and stumbling across Collette & Vinkos recommendation of Yellow House.
We dropped of our bags, then organised with the in-house travel agency to get a shuttle the next morning to the ChiChi markets and then onto Lake Atitlan afterwards. This was so easy and I'd spent hours on the bus reading up on how to get to these places as only mentions local buses in the stupid Lonely Planet!!!
Vicky & I headed out and treated ourselves to a delicious Mexican & margarita lunch, then wandered around the city taking pics of the beautiful old buildings and cobbled stone streets.
There were some very western looking coffee shops near the main square and I was beside myself with happiness to see they did a soy chai tea that was the best I've had since leaving home - seriously I was almost delerious - what will I be like when I get home & have that Chicken Tikka Masala from Maharani that I've been dreaming about?!
We spent the rest of the arvo looking through the shops and trying to get an idea of prices & what we liked so we could barter better at the markets the next day.
I then lost a couple of hours on the internet then went back to the hostel and bed.
I was awoken a short time later by the South African guy in my room as was snoring (how embarrassing!!!). I' swear Inwas lying on my side and I'd like to blame it on the evil sore throat I had but unfortunately there always seems to be some reason I'm snoring!
At Vickys suggestion we woke up early & headed out to get photos of the city in better light and with fewer people about - I was quite impressed with what we took in a short amount of time.
We also stopped by Cafe Barista for more delicious coffee then back to the hostel where we did a mad pack as the shuttle was already there to take us to ChiChi & the markets!
