Shaun on the Road
Hey all, I guess that it is time for another update. I got into Scottland on the 21stish of April and after a half day in Glasgow (not much to see) I went to Edinburgh for a day and caught 7 day tour of the Scottish highlands. Money very well spent. We went all over the place viewing countless castles, lochs (no monster spotted this time), and all sorts of historical sites. Some of the highlights were:
-Jumping into Loch Ness (abour 4 degrees) and then quickly jumping back out
-Seeing about 1000 swords and guns hanging in Blair Castle, home to a Duke with the only private army in Europe (I am going to get one of those when I get back to Canada)
-Kareokee night at a local pub
-The entire Isle of Skye, a great place to see the Scottish highlands and amazing castles overlooking the coast
-The tourguide, who is convinced that Scottland is the greatest country in the world (despite the fact that it really isn't a country)
But I must say that the overall highlight was traveling with 5 other people for a week and not having to constantly think about what I am going to be doing tomorrow, or for lunch, or where I am going to go next. A lack of freedom every once in a while is a good thing.
An awful thing happened even before I started the tour. I was on a bus and lost my moneybelt, with my passport and visa card. I had to wait three days until the lost and found department opened to find out that it was recovered and that I could pick it up. What a relief.
I am off to London tomorrow and then to Nairobi, Kenya. I am a little nervous about my first trip to the dark continent, but is should be good. Keep in touch and I'll update you as I have access to a computer.
