Hi Friends and Family
Well we have just spent a fabulous long weekend in crazy Marrakesh. Arriving first thing on Friday morning we were greeted with blue skys, a hot sun, millions of motorbikes, lots of donkey's pulling loaded carts and those lovely 3rd world smells that seem to float on every corner.
The Riad we stayed in in the old town was fabulous with cool tranquil rooms and a lovely roof terrace looking over all of Marrakesh.
It's the first city which we have experienced such crazy little mazes of cobbled streets. You can seriously get yourself completely lost in the old town Souks. The markets were fabulously vibrant and colourful and the merchants were selling anything from cheap t'shirts to gorgeous hand crafted bowls and leather work. I got myself a lovely tan leather belt while there. But market shopping is'nt really our thing so we also busied ourselves with checking out some lovely historic sites like the Al Badi Palace, the grave of the royals and one of the historic Mosque's which was filled with lots of very small rooms which they apparently fitted in over 900 students at one time!
The food was interesting but Shane and I stuck to safer options like kebab and grilled meat with various salads. We also tried a few of their famous Targines (Which are stews served in little pottery cooking pots) and their Pastilles which is another version of the good old Kiwi Big Ben! But you could be more adventures and give a boiled sheep's head and soggy grey brain a go if you so desired. I think even turtles were on the menu but couldnt possibly eat such a cute creature.
So all in all we had a brilliant time checking out Marrkesh. I will keep this short and simple as the computer keeps crashing and this is the 2nd time I have written this.
We are back in London but are off to Epypt at the end of May. Can't wait.
Lots of love
S&S xx
