Hey Everyone,
Well we have just spent a fabulous week in Sharm El Sheikh which is a very touristy town on the coast of Egypt - right on the red sea. Perfect for guaranteed hot sunshine, lovely blue sea and fabulous diving. As you all know we have been to Egypt before but wanted to go back and do some diving in the famous dive spots there as last time we didnt have our Padi.
Arriving very late on the first evening (our stupid plane was delayed by 7 hours from Luton) we arrived at the Marriott which in our minds is the better place to stay there with its own private beach and gorgeous pool and gardens.
We decided to do our Advanced Padi Diving Course as we needed this to complete the famous Thistlegorm Wreck dive which is 30 metres down. The Thistlegorm was a spectacular dive - the first dive we went around the 130m long wreck and the 2nd dive we went inside the cabins. Carrying torches (as many of the cabins lacked much light) we were able to see lots of old world war motorbikes, army jeeps, bombs and artillery etc. It really was an amazing site with the schools of fish swimming around the cabins with their scaley skins shining in our torch lights! Incredible. On the way back we stopped by Yolanda (Shark Reef) and did another dive where we were blessed with lots of colourful coral and massive schools of fish all brightly coloured. A huge turtle also blessed us with its presence and swam by quite unperturbed.
While in Sharm we did another day of boat diving where we dived some cool reefs and to get our certificate for the advanced course we did a navigation dive using compasses under the water. This was just off the Naama Bay beach and we still got to see so many amazing fish. The red sea really is just a giant fish bowl - filled with colour!
So with two and a half days of diving under our weight-belts we spent the rest of the time taking it easy, lying on our beach loungers, walking up the beach promenade, eating out and drinking Sakara beers (Egypts premium) on the beach while dusk settled.
Had a fabulous and restful week away and got back to a very grey and dreary London. Oh well, you cant have it all!
Till next time.
